WHO ARE WE?
We're a friendly & welcoming club of around 120 members of varying kayaking ability! We partake in a variety of different disciplines and get involved in almost anything to do with kayaking. We hold weekly socials for our members and have regular training and coaching sessions.
WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO
This year our club are raising money for safety equipment and White Water Safety training, which will enable us to continue to welcome complete beginners to our club without them needing to purchase any equipment. We are thrilled to be part of Sports Challenge Week - we'll be racking up the miles in our kayaks all week long, and would love to have your support!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT
Safety equipment and training is vital for our clubs development and for us to continue being able to offer as many trips as we do. Without qualified 'river leaders' to lead trips, and the correct equipment, kayaking down rivers can be dangerous and can lead to serious injury.
Putting club members through safety training courses, such as White Water Safety, decreases the likelihood of accidents happening on rivers. It gives our members more confidence on the water and allows them to develop quicker.
The equipment purchased with the funds from the Sports Challenge Week would help keep our paddlers safe on the river.
By participating in the Sports Challenge Week, we would be able to increase our engagement through having more spaces available to beginners on trips. It would also allow us to continue staying as safe as possible while doing an amazing sport!
HOW WE ARE TACKLING THE CHALLENGE
Our club's main activity would be kayaking. As we run around 7 sessions per week, from pool sessions to training at Exeter Quay to trips to rivers on Dartmoor, we would certainly rack up the 'miles' throughout the week! We also host a run club every week before our Monday pool session, which would contribute.
One event we would look into organising for the week could be a relay up and down the Quay, using the different types of kayaks the club owns. This would be open to members of all ability.
Our main fundraising idea for the lead up to and during Sports Challenge week is the River Dart 'Source to Sea' challenge. This involves kayaking down the River Dart from the source (up on Dartmoor) to where it meets the sea (at Dartmouth). In total this is 75km stretch of water. We would complete this challenge over multiple days, with different club members completing different sections. We would aim for the last section to be completed during Sports Challenge Week.

HELP US SUCCEED
We would love you to donate as much or as little as you are able and any donations are hugely appreciated. Your donation could also help us unlock fundraising challenges which will help us reach our goal even faster (you can see these on the challenges page).
If you are looking to support an individual athlete or challenge, please put a message with your donation saying who!
Alternatively, if you are unable to donate then please do spread the word by signing up as a Challenge Week Ambassador for our club and sharing our social media posts to your own socials so as many people as possible can read about our efforts! OR why not take on your own mileage challenge and ask friends and family to donate to our page to support you (and us!)
