University of Exeter Water Polo Club

WHO ARE WE?

We are a student-run club for students at the University of Exeter. We have a men's and women's Water Polo team that compete in the BUCS competition. We hold regular weekly training sessions indoors during winter and outdoors during summer months.

Currently the club trains at three pools: St Luke's, Cornwall House (summer term only) and St Sidwells Point in the city - only the St Sidwells Point pool can host games due to the sizes of the other pools.

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT

With the funding we would be able to secure additional pool time at St Sidwells point, enabling us to organise more friendly matches for different skill levels, not just our BUCS players, and promote the sport as a whole on all levels by providing training and game time to players of all ability, promoting Water Polo to those who haven't played before or have less experience.

This will help club development, as the only local league available does not align with the skill level of all our players. With the extra pool time we can increase match opportunities for all members of the club, regardless of ability.

As an inclusive club, we encourage players of all ability to join. Dedicated pool time to friendly matches for less experienced players will allow us to involve everyone in all elements of the club, as well as new equipment helping the development of our teams. The funding will help improve skills and confidence of all players as well as creating a more active and supportive environment for all of our members.

HOW WE ARE TACKLING THE CHALLENGE

  • Swimathon: Whole club participation in a 2.5hr relay style swimathon to log as many miles in the pool as possible and raise money.
  • Half marathon to Exmouth: As a club either run/walk a half marathon to Exmouth from Exeter Quay to log miles outside of the pool.
  • Pub Quiz fundraiser: Club-run pub quiz open to everyone. Invite other sports clubs and friends to participate in a pub quiz, small fee to enter will raise money for the club.
  • Water Polo tournament fundraiser: Run a mini friendly tournament. The club would invite other water-based sports to a short training session (to teach the basics) followed by a tournament. All participants would be split into fair teams and play against each other in a fun friendly tournament. There would be a small fee per person to come along to the session to raise money for the club.
